HR bentonite
HR bentonite is used for the production of high-efficiency water-based drilling fluids. It is recommended for horizontal drilling using HDD and microtunnelling technology. It can also be used for vertical drilling. It is made from high grade bentonite, enriched with special modifiers, which improve its rheological parameters as a drilling fluid.
HR bentonite mixes easily and quickly produces maximum viscosity. Even a low concentration of HR bentonite guarantees high structural strength, apparent viscosity and liquid limit. A drilling fluid based on HR bentonite ensures the excellent cleaning of the drilled hole of cuttings and keeps the cuttings suspended while the drilling fluid is not being circulated. Also, polymers can be added to further enhance the lubricating properties of the fluid and improve the stability of drilled holes.
The properties of a drilling fluid made of HR bentonite are in compliance with the American Petroleum Institute “Standard Field Procedure for Testing Drilling Fluids” API, RP 13A.
